Evaluation and Judging

Student NCES Members in Good Standing presenting posters will be evaluated on the following criteria:

Scientific Quality and Content (50% – 10 points each)

• Introduction and background with literature cited. Need for the research clearly stated.
• Objectives clearly and concisely stated
• Materials and methods (study design) are appropriate and explained clearly
• Data/Results interpreted appropriately and clearly stated
• Discussion and conclusions are justified by results

Presentation and Poster Display (50% – 10 points each)

• Organization (logical order, minimum redundancy, effective use of space)
• Poster is legible with large fonts, color contrast, no conflicting backgrounds
• Text without grammatical errors, not overly wordy. 
• Figures and tables are readable, used effectively, and coordinate with text.
• Student presenter is able to answer questions clearly and knowledgeably. 

Poster Setup/Take Down

Setup

• Presenters should arrive at 5:15pm to hang their posters.
• Check in with a NCES officer to confirm that you are present and competing. 
• Posters will be hung using Velcro strips. Velcro will be provided by NCES.
• Each poster will be assigned a number. The number will be provided by NCES.
• Student presenters must remain by their posters during the poster session (6-7p). 

Take down

• Students are responsible for taking their posters down at the end of the banquet. 

Awards

• The first place winner will receive a check for $50 and a Certificate signed by the NCES President and Vice President
• The second place winner will receive a Certificate signed by the NCES President and Vice President
